The façade, turned to Treviso, was simply plastered
and painted. There are no more the frescoes by Pompeo Amalteo, because they were damaged by several historical
events, which dragged in the Door. When a wide gate on the Walls was made a little further East,
the Porta Altinia lost its strategic and road importance and thus when the old nineteenth-century
bridge (connecting Treviso to outside) over the river Sile collapsed it was built no more.
The present wooden bridge was raised some decades ago when Porta Altinia
(Altinia Gates) was restored to be used again as crossing. |
