CASE PIAVONE - ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM IN TREVISO, VENETO |
Address: Via Cal di Breda, 130 - Treviso |
|
 |
The Ethnographic Museum in Treviso Veneto, called Case Piavone, located in the Natural Park of the river Storga, are in the North outskirts of town; they are the seat of Ethnographic Provincial Museum in Treviso
and of Folk Group of Treviso by the will of Provincial
Council of Treviso.
The aim of these buildings is to keep interest alive for those crafts and traditions of Veneto, which have become rarer
and rarer or they have disappeared. |

 |
 |
The Folk Group of Treviso had its seat in Villa Zen, located in Viale Felissent but it had to be closed for repairs and thus
the Group moved to Case Piavone which have become its ideal seat. The contribution of the Folk Group of Treviso is essential in this context, it aims at recovering and at spreading the customs, the
traditions, the folk songs and the dances being long ago and we are going missing now.
The Folk Group of Treviso, born at the end
of thirties of the last century, performs with these purposes not only in the environs of Treviso and in Veneto, but also in Italy and abroad. |
|
Among the oldest traditions of Veneto Panevin keeps live and thus these traditional bonfires of winter solstice are lighted in front of the Ethnographic Museum in the evening on January 5th and people gather around this traditional bonfires and they taste mulled wine and sweets. |
|
One of the annual engagements of the Folk Group of Treviso
is the "Processo alla Vecia" (a comic and farce trial brought against an old woman - vecia - embodying all evils
and all afflictions of our daily life) near Ponte Dante, in the centre of Treviso, along the river Sile, on
Thursdays in Mid-Lent. |
|
Furthermore the exhibition areas of Case Piavone are used to
dress interesting shows about what concerns the life also in country more a century ago.
Thus the show "The scales in the history, between
the technical and scientific evolution and the people’s uses" has been opened care of the Ethnographic Museum in Treviso on November 29, 2004 thanks to the contribution of the Provincial
Council of Treviso (Provincia di Treviso). |
|
This show, concerning these gauges, consists of
about eighty pieces: some of them have remained unaltered so as they were used in the ancient Egypt, other scales
date back to fourteenth and fifteenth century, other are more modern. They belong to Mr. Umberto Schievano who
gathered weights and scales for more forty years during its trade of balances builder; he succeeded in making
an unique collection of its kind. |
|
The displayed scales come not only from Italy,
but also from Central Europe, from England and from China. This collection is evidence of also the evolution
of the men life and of the customs in the history: the ways of measurement changed by a country to another,
the lack of precision of the oldest tools which were replaced by other more modern, the introduction of the
metric system which became compulsory in Veneto only after the unity of Italy and it stood in for the pounds
and the ounces previously used with difficulty.
The show’ll stay open till the end of June 2007. |
